The number of prospective investors on the improvement of the Iloilo City slaughterhouse has double from four to eight as of press time.

The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center in Manila sent their team to Iloilo City in order to scrutinize these investors as well as inspect the slaughterhouse at Brgy. Tacas in Jaro district.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas sought the expertise of PPP Center to address the conversion of city slaughterhouse into quality Triple A world-class standards with refrigeration facility. These can produce meat that meets global or export requirements.

“We need to enter into PPP because it will sustain income and revenues for the City Government,” Mayor Treñas said.

More prospective investors are keen on Iloilo slaughterhouse upgrade. There are now eight interested firms from the initial four proposals submitted for slaughterhouse improvement.

These will be scrutinized by the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center team from Manila who are now in the metropolis.

They have started discussing and conducted site inspection of slaughterhouse at Brgy. Tacas in Jaro district.

“We need to enter into PPP because it will sustain income and revenues for the City Government,” Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said.

He sought the expertise of PPP Center to address the conversion of city slaughterhouse into quality Triple A world-class standards with refrigeration facility. These can produce meat that meets global or export requirements.

The initiative aims to ensure safe meat products being processed and sold in markets.

“We can’t afford to have a slaughterhouse where the butchering process is being done on the floor and seems the facility is not ready. We want to have the best slaughterhouse in Western Visayas,” said Treñas.

In an August 2018 report of the Philippine News Agency, it was stated that the city government needs at least Php100 million to 150 million to rehabilitate the slaughterhouse. (Iloilo City PIO)
