The Iloilo City Government will temporarily provide 300 kaings or bamboo baskets as trash bins around downtown area during Dinagyang 2020 highlights this weekend.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas hopes this will provide solution to the indiscriminate throwing of garbage during the festivities.

But he clarified that culprits will be issued with citation tickets when caught littering.

City Hall has also contracted additional 50 portalets to augment 12 city-owned portalets for sanitation purposes.

Cleanliness of streets and public places poses a challenge as huge crowd converge to celebrate the city’s premier cultural, religious and tourism celebration which climaxes on last weekend of January.

The Iloilo City Government will also hire 40 green guards to add to their 60 personnel.

The green guards are watching over streets, parks and plazas to run after vandals who deliberately destroy flowers and ornamental plants.

They also have been deputized as sanitation officers to apprehend litterbugs and issue them with citation tickets.

They were trained on first aid, basic life support and self-defense. (Iloilo City PIO)
